Film SA

Clemente

Pablo Veliz’ (www.cineveliz.com) second feature started production this week (Clemente: La Lucha - The Struggle) and he and DP Brian Gonzales are using the new Panasonic AG-HVX200 DVC Pro HD camcorder. Pablo’s first feature, “La Tragedia de Macario”, screened at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, and was shot on the Panasonic DVX100A miniDV camera.

First reports from the set are that Pablo is downloading the P2 cards (4GB each) directly onto his Powerbook, and editing the scenes during setups. I walked on the set today and he brought me over to his laptop - “check this out, here’s the scene we just wrapped,” edited and ready to drop into his rough cut timeline. He’s using Final Cut and editing in HD. Needless to say, it looks beautiful.

I know this new camera has been preceeded by a lot of buzz, and this may be one of the first films actually in production on this format (know of others? send me a link)

While Austin is buzzing with Hollywood stars, San Antonio is quietly creating programming for next year’s major film festivals (and is doesn’t hurt that some of the films up the road are finding locations here in San Antonio as well).
Check out the CineVeliz site.

Cheers,
100 degrees in the shade, here in San Anto…..
